Wings earn sweep, move closer to playoff spot ...July 16th , 2006
..The Wings swept the Amsterdam Mohakws in a doubleheader yesterday 2-0 and 4-3.
... In the first game Jeremy Kehrt (Southern Indiana) put on a pitching clinic allowing no runs on two hits while striking out 8 and walking none. The two Geneva runs came in the bottom of the first when Tim Alberts (Niagara) drove in both runs on a two out single off the pitcher.
...Kenny Gray (Florida Atlantic)followed Kehrt's lead and also pitched 6 strong innings scattering 5 hits, and struck out 8. The Wings scored all of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and then held on for a 4-3 win. In the fourth Tim Alberts added to his daily RBI total by driving in Nick Stewart (Fracis Marion) following his triple. Chris Bottsford (St John Fisher) and Harry Darling (Boston College) each added RBI singles along with Chris Lozan's (Xavier) RBI double in the inning which ran the score to 4-0. The Wings then held on in the bottom of the seventh after Amsterdam scored two to move within one run, the Mohaks ended up stranding the tying run 90 feet away at third base.
... Little Falls comes into town this morning to finish a suspended game originally played on July 2nd. The game resumes a 11:00 in the fifth inning with the Wings leading 2-0.
