Nothing like a walk-off win on opening day!... Post Date June 8th, 2007
... If you missed opening day, you missed a GREAT game! The Wings found them selves behind early as Elmira started the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. The wings battled back a few times during the game, but found themselves down 7-3 going into the late innings. That's when the rally started! In the bottom of the 8th the Wings loaded the bases with no one out and rallied for four runs to tie the score. The tying run came in on a two out bases loaded walk on a 3-2 count to Andrew Damewood (University of Texas @ Tyler). The Wings then shut down Elmira in the top of the ninth. The stage was set for Nick Spears (University of Texas Pan Am). Nick came to plate as the first batter in the bottom of the ninth. In dramatic fashion he proceeded to knock the third pitch of the inning, a ball high and away, over the scoreboard in right field for a walk-off-homerun, and the Wings first win of the season! If this is any sign of things to come, you can bet this team will not roll over, they battled hard last night and earned the win.
