Tough 7th sinks Wings ... Post Date June 10th, 2007
...The Red Wings second game of the day looked like it was set to be another pitcher's duel. In the second inning, right-fielder Andrew Damewood (Universiy of Texas @Tyler) hit a ground rule double and would eventually score on a throwing error caused by catcher Nick Spears (University of Texas Pan Am). The Wings looked to add to that lead in the fourth when Shawn Summers (Francis Marion) hit a lead off double, but was unable to cross the plate. In the bottom half of the same inning, first-baseman Chad Daleiden (University of Texas @ Tyler) snagged a line drive with two outs and the bases loaded to keep the game tied at 1-1. The score would remain that way until the
bottom of the seventh inning when the Nitros put six runs on the board, helped out by a bases loaded triple by catcher Michael Weiner. The Red Wings attempted to make another dramatic comeback when Julio Gomez (Coker College) popped up a pitch with two on and two out that was dropped in shallow centerfield, scoring two runs. The scoring for the night was capped off after Damewood hit a lead off triple in the ninth and would eventually comearound to score. Jordan Purington made his first start for the Red Wings earning a no-decision.
... The Wings travel to Cooperstown on Monday for an Exhibition against the Eastern Division Saratoga Phillies, game time is 1:30. The next home game is on Wednesday, it is a doubleheader, to make up the game rained out on Friday. The first game starts at 5:00 with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the end of the first game. �
