Walks, strikeouts doom Wings... Post Date June 20th, 2007
... The pitching staff's walks, and the batter's strikeouts meant sure doom for the Wings last night, but the team still battled to the end. The 'Bats scored six runs on only three hits, the big problem was the walks, six were allowed to 'Bats hitters, three of them in the first two innings. In the second, when the real damage occurred, the 'Bats scored 5 runs on onnly two hits. One of the hits was a three run homerun by Eric Ferguson (Ithaca). The Wings could not generate much offense for eight innings as they struck out 13 times. However in the ninth they did put together a rally, scoring two runs as Brock Miller (Gardner-Webb) and Andrew Damewood (University of Texas @ Tyler) started the rally with back to back one out singles. Nick Spears (University of Texas Pan Am)picked up Miller on a fielders choice RBI. Chad Daledien (University of Texas @ Tyler) then drove in Damewood who advanced to third on a wild pitch, with an RBI single past the shortstop. Unfortunately, the bats came alive a bit too late and the Wings dropped another one 6-2.
