Mowdy takes no hitter into the eighth .... Post Date June 27th, 2007

...Ashton Mowdy (E Oklahoma) came out to the park yesterday to pitch! In 90 degree weather his slider was breaking hard and his fastball was explosive, according to Webster hitters, and it showed! He took a no-hitter through seven full innings. Mowdy faced only 23 batters through 7 full innings, and came into the eighth ready to go. Unfortunately, the first batter in the eighth promptly banged one into a hole in the outfield ending his no hit bid. The Wings lead at that point was a comfortable 5-0, and Lance Rhodes (SE Missouri St) was immediately summoned from the bullpen and finished off the eighth for Mowdy. The Wings scoring started early. In the first, Brock Miller (Gardner-Webb) stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch. In the third, back to back doubles by Julio Gomez (Coker College) and Brendan Stokes (Notheastern) added the second run. The Wings added 3 runs in the seventh inning, as Stokes (Northeastern) picked up his second RBI of the game , and Nick Spears (Texas Pam Am) hammered a two out-two RBI single to round out the scoring. Stokes and Spears both went 2-4 with 2 RBI's each on the night. Kyle Bellamy (Miami) came in and shut the door on the Yankees in the ninth, earning his sixth save on the season.

... The Wings travel to Niagara Falls today to take on the Power at 7:00. The team returns home for a three day home stand on Thursday as the takle on first place Alegany County, first pitch is at 7:30. Come on out and support your 2007 Red Wings.
