Ninth inning rally comes up short, Wings lose 5-3... Post date July 3rd, 2007

...The Wings for the third time in three days again faced off against the Pioneers of Elmira. Having dropped the first two games they were hoping to get back on track. Ed Paul (Francis Marion) was on the mound and pitched good enough for the win allowing just 6 hits and 3 earned runs over 7 full innings, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. Some timely errors allowed Elmira to take advantage of the situation and an early 2-0 lead was expanded to 4-0 by the 5th. The Wings would get one back in the fifth off a triple by Chad Dalieden (University of Texas @ Tyler) who then scored on a Chris Parkinson (Rhode Island) SAC fly. The Pioneers answered right back scoring one in the top of the sixth. The score would remain 5-1 going into the bottom of the ninth. In the Wings ninth the rally started, Shawn Summers (Francis Marion) started it off with a hustling play, diving around an errant throw at first, setting the tone for the inning. Nick Spears (University of Texas Pan Am) then followed with a double to right center field scoring Summers. Brock Miller (Gardner Webb) came in to run for Spears and proceeded to advance to third on a fly ball , and score on a wild pitch. The Wings got it to 5-3, but could not finish the job with the tying run at the plate after Parkinson walked.

...The Wings head to Niagara Falls to face the Power tonight at 7:00. The wings are in a tie with the Power for the final playoff spot in the West Division. The Wings then round out the first half of the season tomorrow night as they travel to Hornell for a 4th of July matinee at 3:00. The Wings next home game is Tuesday July 10th at 7:30 vs. the Allegany County Nitros. See you there!
