Pioneers rally in ninth, defeat Wings... Post date July 2nd, 2007

Despite getting off to an early lead in the second inning off a two-out RBI double by left fielder Cory Laplante (Minnesota State-Mankato) to score DH Julio Gomez (Coker College), Elmira rallied back to win 5-4 against the Red Wings. After the run in the second, the Wings put up two more in the third. Gomez doubled off the left field wall, and shortstop Nick Spisak (Westchester) reached on an error. First baseman Brenden Stokes (Northeastern) followed that up with a two run single into center field, putting
the Wings in the lead 3-0.

That lead held until the bottom of the fifth when Elmira scored 3 runs on three hits, with shortstop Andre Licinsky, left fielder Mike Perkins, and first baseman Wade Gaynor scoring the runs. The Wings held a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, but Elmira rallied off a single by third baseman Ryan Giblin, a double by center fielder M.L. Morgan, and then a two run walk off double by Licinsky. Paul Bertuccini (LSU) got a no-decision in his first start. Getting the win for Elmira was Nate Matusick and Lance Rhodes (Francis Marion) received the loss, despite pitching 3 solid innings of baseball.
