Wings plate 7 in second and put 'Bats away... Post date July 18th, 2007

...After a pitchers duel Tuesday, the boys were hoping to make things a bit easier on themselves Wednsday afternoon. The Wings did just that. In the second inning with the score 0-0 the Wings loaded the bases with no outs after two walks and a hit batsman. That brought Shawn Summers (Francis Marion) to the plate. Summers promptly deposited a Riverbat pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam to start the scoring. Cory LePlante (Minnesota St) would also drive in one run in the inning on a single en route to going 3-4 on the day with 2 RBI. The Wings would add two other runs in the inning, to put themselves comfortably ahead 7-0. The Riverbats would attempt to make it close scoring 1 run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. However, the Wings wold extend their lead in the eighth with two more runs, as LePlante picked up his second RBI single, and Brock Miller (Gardner Webb) scorched a RBI triple to right center, making the score 9-3. After plating one more run in the bottom of the eighth, the 'Bats ran out of steam and succumed to the wings second inning onslaught. Lance Rhodes (Francis Marion) pitched five innings in the start and earned the win scattering 5 hits and allowing 2 earned runs. Scott Forster (Monroe CC) came in to relive Rhodes and shut down the bats for four full innings, allowing just one earned run. The Wings are now 7-2 since the NYCBL All-Star break and are one of the hottest teams in the league. Following a few losses by key teams in the playoff race, the Wings are now tied with Hornell in third place 4 games out of first, and only 2 games behind second place Elmira.

... The red hot Wings return home this evening to host the Webster Yankees at Big Mac on State Senator Nozollio night. The first pitch is at 7:30, and the game is also $1 beer and hot dogs, as well as free admission to all little leaguers. Come on out and help the Wings in their push to the Championship!
