Yankees come up short as Wings win... Post date July 14th, 2007

...The Wings clinging to the fourth and final playoff spot in the West division, faced off against the Yankees at Big Mac last night with eyes on holding that playoff spot. The Wings jumped up early on the Yankees as Brendan Stokes (Northeastern) picked up and RBI on his double in the first. Then in the scond two men reached without a hit on a hit by pitch and an error on a bunt. Chris Vargo (University of Richmond) picked up a 2 RBI triple to clear the bases. The next batter, Chris Parkinson (Rhode Island) then drove in Vargo to make the score 4-0. The score would remain 4-0 as Jason Bowman took his no-hitter into the seventh. The no-no was promptly broken up by the first batter of the inning. He would finish the inning , but things got a little out of hand. The Wings were able to stop the bleeding before it was too late as the Yankees came out of the seventh with only three runs making the score 4-3. The Wings would send Tom Schiller (Moroe CC) to the mound in the eighth, and he would close down three hitters he faced. Then the big sidewinder, Kyle Bellamy (Miami) entered in the ninth and finshed the job for his eighth save on the year. The final score of 4-3 put the Wings within 1 game of third place and 2.5 game out of second. They hold tight to the final playoff spot in the West.

...The Wings are home tonight against the Niagara Falls Power, first pitch is at 7:30. The Power are just a half-game behind the Wings, and are also vying for a playoff spot. Come on out and help the Wings turn off the Power tonight!
