Wings lose close one to split three game series, home tonight... Post date Aug 1st, 2007
...The Wings lost a close one last night in Wellsville as the Nitros beat the Wings 3-2. The win was a result of yet another walk off win, this time for th bad guys. The Wings found themselves in comeback mode again last night after falling behind 2-0 after 4 innings. This time it would be a bit harder to manufacture the runs since they were only able to muster four hits on the night. Ashto Mowdy (E Oklahoma) pitched well, striking out 9, but walking three and allowing 6 hits in his six innings work. The runs allowed were unearned due to fielding errors. The Wings looked like they were in deep trouble losing 2-0 going into the eighth, but they found a way to rally, scoring one in the eighth When Brock Miller (Gradner Webb) walked, then Julio Gomez (Coker) ws hit by a pitch, then Ryan Hypke (Francis Marion) walked loading the bases with two outs. The run then scored as Miller crossed the plate on a wild pitch. In the ninth, behind by one run, the boys knew they needed something to happen. Chris Vargo (Richmond) singled to start the frame, and Shawn Summers (Francis Marion) bunted him to second, Vrago then avanced to third on a wild pitch. Nick Spisek (Westchester) then drove Vargo in on a SAC fly to center, tying the game at 2. The Wings felt the momentum changing, but that was short lived. After a fielding error, a bunt single, and a walk, the Nitros had the bases loaded with no outs. The next batter would ground weakly to first baseman Brendan Stokes (Northeastern), a ball which had a lot of english on it, and Stokes would not be able to make the play at home to prevent the winning run from scoring. In the end, the Nitros force the final and deciding game three tonight at McDonough Park at 7:30. The winner of tonight's game will face the Elmira Pioneers in the first game of the Western Division Championship tomorrow in Elmira, as Elmira beat Hornell 4-3 last night, sweeping the series.
