Wings lose to Webster, hand title to Elmira, playoff game at home tonight.... Post date July 30th, 2007
...After an emotional win Saturday night against Elmira, a win which put the Wings in first place, the Wings had a quick turn around game Sunday afternoon at 3:00 against Webster to decide the regular season divisional championship. The Wings held a 1/2 game lead after beating the Pioneers the night before, but with one make up game remaining on the schedule they would need a win against the depleted Yankees to clinch the division. The Wings jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead after 3 innings, and they looked like they were on their way to the Pennant. However, the Wings pitchers were on pitch counts to save their arms for the playoffs, and they never seemed to find their groove, as a result the Wings were unable to pull out the win losing to Webster 11-6. The loss put the Wings in a tie for first with Elmira, but the Pioneers win the Division based on their 4-2 record against the Wings in head-to-head games this season. The loss also broke a season high 10 game win streak. The Wings finsh the regular season 26-16, including a 14-3 run since the All-Star game. The Wings still go into the playoffs as the hottest team in the league, despite the loss. The Wings start their playoff run as they face off with the Allegany County Nitros tonight at 7:30 in the first game of the three game series. The Wings will then travel to Allegany tomorrow night, and will return to McDonough Park Wednesday if needed. The playoff picture in the West as it stands:
