'07 GRW Bertuccini and Bellamy help Tigers and 'Canes move into Super-Regionals.... Posted June 2nd, 2008

Paul Bertuccini, who played for the '07 Wings earned a win for LSU in the final game of the Baton Rouge regional Sunday afternoon against Southern Mississippi. He was insrted on the mound in the sixth to hold the Tigers lead in a 3-2 game. Bertuccini pitched 1.1 innings, faced 4 batters and fanned each of them. The Golden Eagles rallied for 2 runs after Bertuccini exited, but because the Tigers scored 6 in the sixth, an inning in which he pitched, the winning run was scored for him so he earned the victory. Bertuccini's record is 1-0 on the season in relief with a miniscule 1.71 ERA. #10 LSU will now host their Super-Regional matchup with UC Irvine for a spot in the College World Series.

Kyle Bellamy of the same '07 GRW team also assisted his #2 Miami Hurricanes into the Super-Regionals this weekend. Pitching in all three Regional Games, his line on the weekend: 4.1 IP with 6 Strikeouts. Bellamy is known for his stingyness, however Missouri was able to touch him for 2 earned runs in the second game. Those 2 earned runs in the eighth would allow Mizzou to pull within one, but the 'Canes prevailed. Bellamy bounced back in the championship game vs. Mississippi mowing down the three Rebels he faced. #2 Miami will now take on Arizona in the Super-Regionals this weekend in Coral Gables. The winner of the three game set heads to Omaha for the College World Series!

Some experts are predicting a Miami vs. LSU finish, as Miami is consdiered by many as the strongest team, and LSU is currently one of the hottest teams in Division I baseball. Could the '07 Geneva Red Wings teammates face each other on the big stage? Stay tuned.....
