Wings bounce back, but fall short .... Posted June 26th, 2008

Putting the prior evening's debacle behind them, the Wings traveled to Hornell to take on the division leading Dodgers. The boys in blue would get on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second, however the Wings would immediately rebound and take the lead in the top of the third with two runs off Doug Elliot (UConn) and Eddy Mendiola (Notre Dame) RBI singles. The lead would be short lived as Hornell would plate one, the game winner, in the bottom of the third which would hold for the rest of the game. Mike Assmann (Cortland) would again pitch brilliantly and take the hard luck loss going 7 full innings, allowing five hits and striking out five. The Wings bats were just a little too flat on the bight and they couldn't pick up Assmann's nice start for him, leaving 11 men on base. The 2,3,4 hitters of Matt Perry (Holy Cross), Elliot, and Mendiola were a combined 7-11 and accounted for seven of the eight hits on the night. Elliot went perfect at the plate with a 3-3 night with one RBI.

The Wings travel tonight to Bolivar. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00PM and can be heard live on TeamLine. The Wings will return home tomorrow, Friday June 27th to host Allegany County.
