Wings score two in ninth for the win...Posted July 2nd, 2008

After several nights of frustration, the Wings went into Tuesday's game with the Pioneers hoping to change their luck. Mike Assmann (Cortland) started on the hill and pitched solidly keeping the Wings in it through 5 1/3 innings. Kris Mengle (Georege Mason) and Pete Lopmado (Minnesota St.) each pitched 2/3 of an inning of scoreless baseball. Jason Koziol (George Mason) earned the win with 1 1/3 innnigs of no-hit relief. The hitters were quieted by the Pioneers pitching staff only scratching out 5 hits on the night but one of those hits would be a big hit at the right time. Behind 5-4 in the top of the ninth, Eddy Mendiola (Notre Dame) would draw a lead off walk, Ryan Uphouse (Geroge Mason) would then lay down a text book bunt moving Mendiola to second. Mendiola would then advance to third on a balk, a play which would result in the Pioneer manager's ejection. Then the fun began. John Sills (Holy Cross) would drive a screamer to right center scoring Mendiola and when the dust cleared he would be standing on third with an RBI triple, tying the game. Sills would then score what would be the winning run two pitches later on a wild pitch to the backstop. That would set the stage for Aaron Brett (SW Missouri St) as he closed the door on the Pioneers striking out one and sitting the hitters down in order for the save.

The Wings face the Pioneers again Wednesday night, this time at home at McDonough Park. First pitch is set for 7:30. The Route 14 rivaly is alive and kicking, make sure you are there to experience it!
