Wings win 9th straight, sets up Pennant Championship game Saturday night... Post date July 27th, 2007

...The Wings won their ninth straight tonight beating the Allegany County Nitros 6-2 at Big Mac, on a rainy and foggy night. The Wings got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Julio Gomez (Coker College) hit his fourth home run of the season, a two run shot to the opposite field, to put the Wings up 2-0. The Wings then added four more runs in the third with nearly everyone in the lineup making some type of contribution in a five hit barrage, in which the boys also took adavantage of three errors. By the end of the third the boys had built a 6-0 lead and looked as though they would be on thier way to take over second place. The Nitros would try to come back scoring one run in the fourth and sixth, but they would stand 11 runners on base as the Wings defense and pitching tightened up on the Nitros at the right times. Jason Bowman (Westchester) added a win to his record moving him to 3-1 on the season. Lance Rhodes (SE Missouri St) held the game for two innings, Tom Schiller (MCC) took over in the eighth, and Ed Paul (Francis Marion) finshed off the game in the ninth. The win tonight puts the Nitros a half game behind the Wings who take over second place, and sets up the Elmira game tomorrow night as the Western Division Pennant championship game. The Wings sit just .5 game behind the Pioneers in second place so, that sets up the final secnario: the winner of tomorrow night's game in Elmira at 7:00 will win the Western Division Pennant! You can bet it will be a terrific game. Listen live on Teamline if you can't make the road trip!
