Geneva's Nick Stewart named 2006 NYCBL Player of the Year!

Nick Stewart (Francis Marion) was honored with the title of 2006 NYCBL Player of the Year as voted on by the NYCBL coaches. Nick roamed Right Field as a key component of the 2006 Geneva Red Wings. He led the team in nearly every offensive category this season, while tallying 6 assists from his Right Field position. Nick's numbers were some of the best on the all-time Red Wings list. He broke the single season home run record hitting his 7th in his final game, beating former Wing Craig King's record of 5. He swiped 14 of the 17 bases he attempted to steal, his OBPS (on base plus slugging) was an obscene .905 as he batted a vey soild .310. To go along with his 7 HR's he also drove in 28 RBI's. Nick was a gentleman both on and off the field and played the game with poise, power, humility and class. On behalf of the the entire Geneva Red Wings organization we would like to congratulate Nick on being recognized for such a tremndous honor!

Jeremy Kehrt named to NYCBL First Team Post-Season All-Stars

Jeremy Kehrt (Southern Indiana) was named to the NYCBL First Team Post-Season All-Stars for his performance on the mound this season. Jeremy was one of a trio of strong starters the Wings had this season, and as the season progressed so did his delivery. His "stuff" was domniating through out the season, most notably in his 3 complete games of which two were shutouts. His ERA was a microscopic 1.77 over 8 starts. He allowed just 35 hits and 14 walks in his team leading 56.0 IP, which resulted in a 0.88 WHIP. He also fanned 46 batters for an average of 7.4 K/9 innings. On behalf of the entire Geneva Red Wings organization we would like to congratulate Jeremy on being named a NYCBL First Team All-Star!

Rochester forfeits game, season over... Tonight's game cancelled ...July 28th, 2006

...In a controvercial move the playoff bound Rochester Royals forfeited tonights game to the Geneva Red Wings. The Red Wings Staff apologizes for an inconvenience due to the late notice, but this issue was well beyond the Red Wings control, and was completely in Rochester's hands. This move by Rochester ends the Wings season and unfortunately cancels both the game and the American Cancer Society's fundraiser.

... The Red Wings Staff and Players would like to thank all the fans that have supported the team thoughout the season. This has been a great bunch of young men and thay have left an immpression on the coaches as well as the community. Sometimes you can measure success in ways other than a win-loss record, this team was successful in many ways beyond those numbers. Thank you gentlemen for a great season, good luck to all of you as you return to your respective colleges.

Rain again dampens the mood...July 28th, 2006

...A late afternoon downpour did not cause last evening's game to be cancelled, but it sure put a damper on everyones mood. The teams played in a nearly silent stadium before less than 100 fans. Both teams seemed disinterested in playing, but the decision to play was made and the game started about a half hour late. Nick Stewart (Francis Marion) continued his dominant hitting, with a towering blast to left center field in the first. The two run homerun gives him eight on the season, and he has sewn up the NYCBL homerun title. The Wings put a few more runs on the board but ended up falling 8-4 to Watertown. The Wings complete the season tonight at home against Rochester. Come on out tonight and say goodbye to a wonderful bunch of guys!

... Update: The final attendence for Senator Nozzolio Night was 2,087! It was great to have you all there! By far it was the largest crowd of the season, thank you!

Wings continue to battle, big crowd greets team

...By far the largest crowd of the season greeted the Wings Wednesday night at McDonough on State Senator Nozzolio Night. More than 2000 Fans poured into the ballpark to catch the Wings and Royals. Although things didn't quite go the Wings way as they dropped the game 6-1 to the Royals, many fans who hadn't seen a game this season were plseantly surprised by the quality of play the NYCBL has provided and the changes to the old stadium. You still have a chance to visit the old ball park two more times this season as the Wings host Watertown Thursday and Rochester again on Friday. The Wings will also conduct post-game autograph sessions on the field following each of the remaining home games.
